In metals and manufacturing, much of a company’s collateral is heavy equipment such as presses and machining centers. Lenders size a term loan against an appraisal of that equipment, often its net orderly liquidation value (NOLV), and against the company’s ability to service the debt.
A term loan is advanced in full at closing and repaid on a fixed schedule. Companies use a secured term loan for one-time needs such as equipment purchases or refinancing.
